2007: consumes drop- bread (-6,3%), wine (-4,6%), oil (-1,7%)
In 2007 the consumes dropped for bread ( -6,3%),
greens (-4,2%), pasta (-2,6%), fruit (-2,5%),
vegetables (-4,2%) and wine (-4,6%). Instead
expenses increased 1,2%, reaching almost € 50
milliard. The world of agriculture launched this
news based on data collected by ISMEA-AC
NIELSEN. On the whole the food consumes
dropped of about 0,7%. The consume of bovine
meat fell 3,1% and pork meat lost 1,1%. Fish
had a 0,8% drop while butter recorded a decrease
of 3,6%. Wine dropped 4,6% consume but
sparkling wine lost 17,1% sales and beer suffered a
4,1% drop. Milk sales resist this negative trend
(+0,5%) together with cheese (+0,1%). But Dop-
products are decreasing their sales (-2%),
particularly Grana Padano (-4,3%) and Parmigiano
Reggiano (-1,98%). Vice versa some products did
not record this negative period: the poultry meat (
+3,8%): yogurt (+3,8%), fourth and fifth range
vegetables and fruit (+2,2%), eggs (+4,2%),
mineral water (+1,6%) and the extra virgin olive
oil (+1,8%). The olive oil, instead, recorded a
1,7% drop and the seed oils had a 5,6% drop. "The
Italians -is said- tried to spare some money for
food in 2007 and this trends seems to be confirmed
for the first months of 2008. The highest
percentage of people limiting food expenses -the
survey reveals- is among retired people, especially
people aged over 55 (the number increases for
people over 70). And among people earning low
salaries, between € 1400 and € 1600 a month.
