THE EU ACCEPTED THE RADICCIO FROM VERONA AND THE ZAFFERANO FROM SARDINIA
Bruxelles recognized the Radicchio( chicory) from Verona and the zafferano( saffron) from Sardinia as high-quality products to be listed in the European Register of origin denominations. ( PDO) Geographic indications (PGI) and Food specialties, tutored by the EU against any imitations or false. The decision was taken by the EU Commission after a deep analysis of two dossiers and consequently published in the Official Gazette to collect possible contents by other producers. After the bureaucratic step had gone the EU approved this registration definitely. The Radicchio from Verona (PGI) is one of the most important products in this area, a great source for agriculture even in foreign markets. The zafferano from Sardinia (PDO) distinguishes for its aromatic virtues. It is produced in the areas of San Gavino Monreale, Turri e Villanova Franca. Bruxelles listed in the PDO-PGI Register even two Spanish olive oils and French Oysters, joining other 800 food products tutored by the European legislation. A long excellence- list where Italy gains one of the most important places in Europe.
