OIL: in November oil-mills opened

A whole month dedicated to the oil from Umbria with denomination of protected origin, with degustation, visit in the oil-mills, olive picking and cultural initiatives and performances in ten commons with a high “oil vocation”: this initiatives is called “open olive-mills”, dedicated to the evaluation of the PDO oil from Umbria. This year this event is on its XII edition, taking place in Trevi; Spoleto, Guano dell’ Umbria, Castel Ritaldi, Valtopina, Gualdo Cattaneo, Catiglione del Lago, Spello, Montecchio, Campello sul Clitunno .The event is going to take place in November, where in Trevi there will be also Festivol, and among the most interesting exhibitions, there will be the Gold from Spello. In the first week-end of November five areas of the PDO oil from Umbria are involved: Colli del Trasimeno, Colli Orvietani, Colli Amerini, Colli Assisi-Spoleto, Colli Martani. The foreseen tours, in fact, are supposed to involve, beyond Trevi, also Spoleto, Guano and Castel Ritaldi while the province of Perugia is going to open the public the olive mill of Isola Polvese, providing free ferries from San Feliciano. During the five weeks of “open olive-mills”, involving 31 producers, the visitors can take part to the olive-picking and attend the crashing, experiencing naturalistic trekking tours on foot or on horseback and even urban trekking in the historical centres, including visits to museums, never forgetting the theatrical and musical events, thanks to the collaboration of the regional Department for culture, the public theatre of Umbria, Fontemaggiore, the lyrical theatre in Spoleto. There are even the sole – musicians from Spoleto and the dance – company “Deja Donne”. Today Giuliano Nalli, the mayor of Trevi ( and President of the WAY of FOOD oil from Umbria and of the Mountain Community Monti Martani Seramo and Subasio) with Paolo Morbidoni, the Major of Guano dell’ Umbria (and national vice-president of the Citta dell’ Olio) together with the regional assessor for Agriculture Carlo Liviantoni have presented this year’s program in Perugia, at the Osteria delle Strade dell’ Olio e del Vino (ex provincial enoteca) in via Ulisse Rocchi. “ the annual production is expected to be scarce, Nalli has said, and the experts teach us this is a sign of top-quality production. But the olive-mills are going to be newly opened as elements of promotion beyond production, a promotion of an integrated area matching the demand of a requesting tourism, not bound to seasons nor sensational week-ends’.
