Study: correct diet can prevent breast cancer
A correct diet can prevent breast cancer: this is what comes from a study coordinated by Franco Berrino of the National Istitute of Cancers in Milan, according to which a healthy diet, physical exercise and over-weight control can avoid 20-30% of cancers for women who are moderately at risk. The research was presented today in Florence at the meeting “Study of breast pathologies today”. It is necesary to limit long hormonal dosages to try and solve the problems caused by menopause. “It is better to follow a diet with a low level of gluchosio and animal fats - explained Marco Rosselli del Turco - to do physical exercise for half an hour every day and avoid becoming over-weight, particularly after menopause ”. Besides, del Turco announced important research, coordinated by regione Toscana and financed by the Ministery for Health, to check how many people can avoid cancer: on one side preventing through medicines like tamoxfene or fenretinide, for women with high genetic risk; on the other side, teaching a good lifestyle and suitable food. A European survey is being made about this second aspect, cancer and food (Epic), and with the help of 47.000 Italian volunteers it will allow us to evaluate the qualities of the Italian diet against cancer (with pasta, vegetables, extra-virgin olive oil, fruit).
