Unesco: the Mediterranean Diet: Italy as leader for pasta and wine

Italy, that will promote the nomination of the Mediterranean diet as cultural, immaterial mankind’s heritage, is the first world producer of pasta and wine. After California and China, Italy is the third world producer of transformed tomato and it is also the second producer of olive oil, after Spain. While the 30% production of fruit and vegetables belongs to Italy. This is a simple scheme of the situation on diet and made- in- Italy product. PRODUCTS: In the world Italy produces 28,1% of pasta, 13,5% of transformed tomato, 25% of olive oil, 1,5% of fruit and vegetables and 18,3% of wine. DIET: It is based on the so-called ‘food pyramid’ that has the most frequently used products as basis (bread, pasta, rice, polenta, fruit and vegetables) including the consumption of fish, red and white meat, eggs and cheese and a moderate consumption of wine. The substances are divided into: 44-60% carbohydrates, within 30% fats and 10-15% proteins.
