Mediterranean Diet: the Senatus approve the proposal as "World Heritage of Unesco"

Nervy relationships, institutional struggle, the opposition abandons the hall- after some days’ tension for the law stop-trials, everything is forgotten at the ar Senates for one morning. Majority and opposition were united around food, that real part of historical and cultural identity of the Country that is the dish of pastasciutta. Everyone agreed to support the nomination of the Mediterranean diet as cultural, immaterial world heritage. The slogans and yells shouted one against the other left the place to songs reminding us of our typical food, as those sung by Fred Bongusto in the 70’s – the senators all agreed to promote every kind of initiative to reach this goal and they voted unanimously. A formal act, necessary to give the government the task to shelter and promote the Mediterranean diet and to prepare all the necessary documents, already started together with Spain, Greece and Morocco to let this diet be part of the goods of UNESCO. The committee was asked to present the dossier about the Mediterranean diet to the Organization for the United Nations for Education, Science and Culture within 14th August. A very important appointment because this diet- as De Castro said- surely belongs to the historical and cultural identity of the Mediterranean and it is also an opportunity for the countries of the area to have an economic growth. ”Bread, pasta, fruit, olive oil, fish, wine are the expression of a whole cultural system aiming to health, quality of food and their territorial diversity. The government agreed with this project and some senators intervened to underline the importance of this diet. After the vote, they all went to the restaurant of Palazzo Madama, to pass from words to facts.
