HEALTH: the Mediterranean diet as elixir for long life, - 9% mortal cases
Faithfulness to the traditional food, the “Mediterranean” diet as antidote to a lot of the most spread diseases in the west-side of the world. The more the Mediterranean diet is followed the less mortality and presence of diseases, from cardiovascular diseases to tumours. For those who follow the Mediterranean diet – Francesco Sofi ( nutritionist for the University of Florence ) showed – this reaches 9% the mortality level for every cause; it reduces cardiovascular problems ( - 9% ), Parkinson and Alzheimer ( - 13% ), cancer ( - 6% ). These are the results published in the British Medical Journal after an analysis of 12 studies about food and health published in the past, involving 1,5 million people on the whole. The Mediterranean diet – rich in olive oil, vegetable, fruit, fish, cereals was connected only to a positive anti-cancer and protective effect against cardiovascular diseases. This study shows how our food – style is a medicine against many of the chronic diseases of our century. The experts have given a score to every single person according to his/ her loyalty to the Mediterranean diet and they have found out that those who love food most, generally live without disease. In fact this study emphasizes that if this kind of food-style is followed seriously, the mortality range decreases in every kind of disease(-9%).
