San Francesco: 2.6 tons oil coming from 70 oil mills

Basilicata (a region in the South of Italy) will give Assisi (a town near Perugia) about 2.6 tons ‘ extra virgin olive oil (produced by 70 olive mills in Lucania) as a gift to light up the lamp on Saint Francesco’s tomb. Vincenzo Viti, the Councillor for agriculture delivered this news in a notice of the press office of the Regional Council of Lucania. The oil from Lucania will light up the lamp on the Italian Patron Saint’s from Sunday 4th October to the end of the next year; it will represent the symbol of faith as the region of Basilicata means it. This oil is a product endowed with extraordinary organoleptic qualities; for this reason it will be given also three monasteries, the Holy Monastery of Saint Francesco, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Angels and to the Proto- monastery of the Clares nuns from Assisi, as a reward for their social activities and their assistance to the poor people, as the Councillor explained.
