Oil, a model of super intensive olive colture
A very productive olive-colture with restrained picking-time and production costs: this novelty was presented at Cerignola (Foggia); it allows the colture and the mechanical picking in superintensive olive-graves. This model, that could join the traditional colture-technique in Apulia, was presented on the demonstration- day at the Technical School for Agricolture ITAS “Pavoncelli” at Cerignola, organized by the faculty of Agricolture of Bari University. A similar day is taking place tomorrow at Cassano delle Murge (Bari) and on Saturday at Fasano (Brindisi). These meetings are pointing out the necessity to find optimum solutions to be competitive on the market, where in 2010 the area of “ free exchange “ will be established; this will open the European market to olive and vegetable products from the southern part of the mediterranean area. Furthermore in 2013 the E.U. is going to cut the economic supports to agricolture and olive-colture in the European countries. On the basis of these changes the faculty for Agricolture presented the results of an experimentation, started in 2001, addressed to check if this superintensive model is possible in Apulia; this model is able to put the production-chain of the oil (the so-called “ filiera”) upsidedown reducing the picking-costs to €0,20-0,30 per litre of oil.
