Agricolture and food - € 6 million olive oil exports to Brazil
Italian agricolture and food exports to Brazil overcame in the first ten months of 2007, € 67 million. The most part (33%) is reppresented by wine, sparkly wine, liquors and other drinks (about € 15 million) and then pasta is to be found (15%- € 7 million). The association Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad reported these data, adding that the olive oil already overcame the amount of 2006 exports (about six million compared to 4,8 milion of 2006). The Brazilian part though, is only 0,5% (1,6 milliard of the total export) and Brazil is not among our 15 best partners in trade. According to this association these difficulties are referred only to the agroindustrial sector that constitutes only 4% of our exports towards this country, but “ our possibilities are really good”. The data were reported on the opening day of the progect “mediterranean diet” run by the Italian-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Sao Paulo. The Italian minister for agricoltural policy Paolo De Castro attended the opening day together with Joau Carlos de Souza Mereilles, the president of the Brazilian Union of Agricoltural Trade, deliberately founded to improve the relationships between the two countries both in the agricoltural and in the fields of food.
