OIL: Sirena d'Oro, DOP should be the guide of the consumer
The denomination of protected origin on the packages of the extra-virgin olive oil becomes “a certainty and a leading light
for the consumer” according to the regulation on the ban of filling up the already used bottles in the restaurant and on the
indication of origin of the olive that are slowly being applied both in the restaurants and in the filiera of oil-production. This
is what was said in the meeting at Palatium, the regional wine bar. Among the rewarded oil producers of this prize “Sirena d’oro”,
Palatium was said to be the only wine-bar with a top-quality typical restaurant. The prize “Sirena d’oro” was promoted by the
Department of Agricultural policies of the Region Campania together with the city of Sorrento and the participation of the national
associations Città dell’olio, Oleum and Federdop. The Palatium was the first restaurant in Rome where all the products have
their traceability, the fore runner with the use of the so-called “short filiera”, of the eco-sustainable philosophy of 0-kms-food.
The extra-virgin olive oils all come from top-quality producers following the present regulations with the sealed caps. “This
public enterprise-said the chairman, journalist in the field, Luciano Pignataro- is a model to be followed also by other regions,
starting from Campania”. Even the major of Canino attended the meeting where excellent oils were presented from the Lombard lakes to
Calabria; some collaboration were made to spread top quality oil; the role of women is primary in this field. Sirena d’oro awards
top-quality oils with a production of 10 quintals at least, that is to say productions easily to be found on the market by the
consumers. Among the rewards, one was given to the Sabina producer of the enterprise “ La Mola” of Anna Maria Bicci from Castelnuovo
di Farfa that, Pignataro admitted, always wins just like the Juventus team.
