OIL, SLOW FOOD: Sicily is the second in Italy as for quality
Sicily is the second region in Italy for its top-quality oil according to the last edition of the guide to the extra virgin olive
oils edited by slow- food Editor. The isle, overcome by Tuscany for the number of labels present in the volume, conquers six
“three olives” and an award as “Excellent Extra virgin” that is to say the top of excellence according to the guide written by
Tiziano Gaia e Diego Soraceo; this guide analyses 950 extra virgin olive oils, 680 farms and 20 regions. These are the awarded
labels “three olives 2008”: Ariazzae Dop Monti Iblei of Luciana Vermiglia (Busemi, Salerno); Cinque Colli of Cinque Colli
(Chiaramonte Gulfi, Rg); Don Carlo del Borgo Antico from Gerace bio-agriculture (Enna); Dop Monte Etna Sciara Vivai from Sciara
Viva bio-production (Ragalna, CT) Dop Dal Titone (Trapani). This volume awards also the extra virgin olive oil La Casina of Lorenzo
Papa (Palermo) as “excellent extra virgin”, that is to say products that resulted particularly brilliant at tasting but that
couldn’t reach the “three olives”.
