OIL, ZAIA: FROM MARCH PRODUCTION COUNTRY ON BOTTLES

From March on, the production country will be compulsory expressed on the bottles of olive oil in Europe. This has been announced by the secretary for Agriculture Luca Zaia. The secretary declared: “thanks to a battle started eight months ago we can get the agreement in the WTO seat. For the first time in the history of our Agricolture we have the Union’s allowance to introduce the compulsory origin on the label, so that controls will be easier”. “Italian extra virgin olive oils can’t be sold on the market at € 3,50 a bottle”. “This – the secretary concluded – allows us to empower our project to make the origin of the products compulsory for all the items of the agro-food”.
