FOOD,ZAIA: NO WORRIES ABOUTS LABELS

Some resistance against the bill providing the origin labelling of food, do not really worry the Secretary for Agricolture, Luca Zaia. At a TV programme UNOMATTINA he explained “We are not worried about this resistance in EU, whose vision is linked to DOHA and WTO agreements, that is to say the total opening of the markets and the free circulation of the goods. Our relationship to EU is really good, so that we could bring Italy to negotiate again! The consumer has the right to recognize what he buys. For example some extra virgin olive oil is sold in our country with an Italian name, but it doesn’t belong to our national agro-food production. With the compulsory indication of origin the consumer will be informed about what he is buying”. Zaia explained also the bill of enforcement of competitiveness stating the compulsory indication on the origin on all the other food. “It is not to be accepted anymore. Zaia added – that only one product is really Italian out of 10 sold abroad and classified as such. We want to defend our Agricolture and inform our consumers.
