Tourists can become farmers at Pollica. This small cilentano Common considered by Legambiente one of the most beautiful 10 seaside resorts in Italy, is about to launch an original initiative. In fact the tourists spending their holidays at Pollica-Acciaroli will be given the possibility to wear the farmers’ clothes. Which way? Simple: “ Adopting” the olive trees existing in this area. These tourists are only asked to subscribe a rent-contract with the local biologic farms to have the right to grow the trees, collect their fruits and have their extra virgin olive oil. This initiative will be checked by the local farmers, who are going to follow the tourists’ work step by step. Finally, the tourists will bring home some of the produced oil as souvenir of our beautiful sea and unspoiled nature. “Pollica is the homeland of the Mediterranean diet and olive-tree is the symbol of this diet. The major Angelo Vassallo explains. These tourists will have the possibility to know directly the secrets of our land, personally producing one of the most important products of our tradition. The oil will obviously be biologic, and the producers of our oil will be our tourists, who will take part in every phase of the realization, from growing to picking, till pressing in the olive mills of our area”. Then Vassallo has concluded :” And what about lazy visitors? DO NOT BE AFRAID: after renting the olive-trees, they won’t do anything else but wait for the oil to come, comfortably at home.
