FOOD: WINES FROM LIGURIA CONQUER JAPAN

VERMENTINO, Pigato and Rossese from Liguria conquer Japan. These white wines aim at staying on the tables of the great restaurants in Tokyo, to accompany sushi, the typical Japanese raw fish. In the seat of Liguria region the councillor for the region Liguria Giancarlo Cassini has presented a promotion plan of the wines from Liguria to Japan and in general to the extra European countries, lasting till 2013.’ We have started this year with a financing of € 73.000 and for 2010 we have reached € 199.000’ the councillor has explained. This amount of money covers 50% of the promotion, the rest is given by private people. In particular Eataly a firm delivering top-quality Italian products; Eataly has temporarily founded an association of enterprise to attend the regional concourses( the 2010’s one ended on 30th October). The Eataly President, Oscar Farinetti, has explained:” In Tokyo we have three places where we restore sell and promote for 2009. next year we are supposed to use also the space opening in New York in June”. The wines from Liguria so far involved in the gourmets, free and guided, organized in the main of the three shops in Tokyo are Poggio dei Gorberi, Bruna, Monticello and Santa Caterina providing Vermentino, Pigato, Rossese Riviera Ligure di Ponente, Ormenasco and Colli di Luni. But the assessor has underlined :” Within the end of the year all the eight PDO from Liguria will be presented”. “ Among these the Rossese from Dolceacqua and the Scicchetrà of the Cinque Terre. Other products such as pesto have been promoted in the other meetings which have been attended by about 1000 people, thus promoting also the most beautiful places of the region”. The Eataly responsible for foreign trade explained ‘ now we aim at wines, even because we believe they match well the Japanese cooking’.
