PDO-PGI : OVER €100 MILLION SALES

In Italy PDO-PGI sales have surpased €100 million and in 2010 they could reach €250 million, that is to say over 16 million bottles. Even foreign consumers are more and more interested in this PDO-PGI phenomenon: the export volume of this kind of product is continuously increasing (thus involving 61% of extra-E.U. markets and 39% of the E.U. market). Nowadays, there are 38 already recognized geographic areas and 27 additional requests are being taken into consideration by the E.U. or by the MIPAF (The Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry). The so-called PDO-PGI oil system represents 24% of all the designation of origin. Today there are over 100 restaurants in Rome and Milan already using a list of PDO-PGI olive oils.
