ISTAT (Central Institute of Statistics) about oil: DOP-IGP producers and cultivaded-lands decrese

It is the second category as regards quantity of certified origin products made in Italy (37DOP and IGP, with two new certifications); but it is suffering from a decrease of farms (17,1%), cultivaded lands (-10,1%) and transformers (-14,9%): this is the situation of extra virgin olive oil according to the data of the ISTAT referring to changes in the period between december 2004 and december 2005.
This drop is mainly due to restrictive legislative changes for the Umbria olive oil, which caused the withdrawal of some farms and transformer. The centre of Italy seems to have the most olive farms (72,5%), particularly Tuscania, that reaches 63,3% of national productive units
