Food-olive oil 32% of the total production in Italy

The data of the Italian market of the olive oil are encouraging: in 2006 there was a production of 700.000 tons., that is to say 32% of the European production.
It is a more and more increasing market which involves about 2,2 million producers and 11.000 oil mills in Europe, of which 95% of the production refers to the mediterranean area. These data were announced from ACNielsen in the first forum about oil for food introduced in Tuttofood, the food-workshop at Milan fair, Rho.
Italy maintains its leedership in the production of the olive oil; on the countrary, as regards consumers, the USA achieve the first place with 22,1% consumption, followed “made in Italy” products abroad is provided by the big producers that are particulary accurate as regards quality” as Pompeo Farchioni, president of the Food-Group Farchioni, pointed out. “To protect this Italian leadership-he added- today it is important to find out the consumer again and to “ surprise” this with the best clearness, giving him the possibility to purchase a product in a simple way.
