Oil in USA: 60% of the Italian product reaches USA, a widening market

The USA are the first importers of olive oil from Italy with a range of 60% of the market; compared to the new consumer- countries the USA represent the highest consume-power and they hold a growth- trend of more than 5% per year. These data have been delivered by UNAPROL (The Italian Olive Consort) on the occasion of the presentation of ‘ Portofoil’. The first catalogue of farms exclusively producing 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil, realized with the support of the Agricultural, Food and Wood Department. Portofoil, collecting the offer of over 150 oil farms able to guarantee certification on the typical Italian product, is going to achieve New York and Washington. There will be seminars and presentations of the catalogue to the buyers and tasting of the 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil on the occasion of USA ‘Vinitaly’. Massimo Gargano (the Unaprol President) declared:” Our target with Portofolio is to convey the world consumers the image of competence and high quality Italy has deserved on foreign markets, defending the need of the compulsory origin labelling”.
