Food, Ismea: in 2007 +8% sales of DOP and IGP production

The PDO and PGI products have had another positive year in Italy. According to the data of ISMEA (the Observatory on the PDO and PGI products – the most important products in Italy), in 2007 an 8% increase in sales has been recorded, that is to say € 5 milliard, and a 4% as for the sales to the consumers, that is to say € 7,2 milliard (9milliard if you consider the sales abroad). More particularly, the value of production has recorded a 7,4% increase for cheese and +3,8% for the products made from meat that have favoured the consumption, respectively, + 0,9% and +1,7% .The sales of PDO and PGI oils have reduced instead (-6,4% that is to say – 5,4% the value of the final prices). While the sales of vegetables and cereals have improved, on the whole, 43%in the first phase of exchange and over 46% for the consumers. The leading region, from a geographical point of view, is Emilia Romagna where 38% of the whole production sales is concentrated. The second is Lombardia with 24%, followed by Trentino Alto Adige with 8,4%. As regards exports the ISMEA data confirm in 2007 the trend to increase (+11,5% in quality and +13% as for money). As for money the sales abroad of made- in- Italy certified products have overcome the limit of € one milliard.
