OIL, ISMEA: NOT EXCELLENT CAMPAIGN IN SICILY

According to Ismea and the Union of producers (Aipo, CNO, UNAPOL, UNAPROL, UNASCO) there will probably be only a 50% increase in the olive oil production compared to last year’s production. In detail, the excessive heath in the province of Agrigento lasting till the end of October, didn’t allow the olives to grow very big but it avoided pathogens as well, thus not affecting the quality of the product. There are optimistic expectations for the development of olive fields and for the quality of the olives in the area of Trapani. In the area of Palermo the olives have not had any regular development, consequently their oil production will probably be affected. Production decreases even in the Province of Catania. The problem of drought hit also the area of Messina where the production is however higher than last year. In the other provinces of the island the situation is somewhat heterogeneous.
