TUNISIA:OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION DECREASES

In Tunisia the olive oil production for the year 2008-2009 is esteemed in 150.000 tons, against the expected 200.000. The decrease in production is probably due to the lack of rain at the beginning of the year. The expectations for this sector, according to the targets of the XI development plan (2007-2011), aim at an average yearly production of 210.000 tons olive oil (+44% compared to the previous plain) ; 130.000 addressed to exports. According to this plan the olive-fields should achieve 100.000 hectares.
