CONSUMES: the first farmers’ market indoor opens
The Roman countryside will offer its products right in the centre of Rome, among the rests of the Fori Imperiali and Circum Maximus. The first
indoor Farmers’ market has been celebrated at the former Jewish fish market in San Teodoro street; this market has been requested to further
spread the phenomenon of the direct shopping to the farmers, so appreciated by 60% of the Italians. There are lots of stands in the new indoor
market, destined to be a meeting point for consumers and producers, avoiding the intermediary steps and making the prices rise, from the field to
the table. This initiative is following also the opening in Washington of the Fresh Farm Market supported by the first lady Michelle Obama, who is
becoming a great ambassador of healthy diet. In the market of Campagna Amica at Circo Massimo, you can buy a wide variety of food products “they
have unbelievable prices and quality”: fresh and dry fruit, jams, olive oil, biscuits, corn bread and various specialities such as Caciofiore,
historical cheese made according to the recipe of Columella, the first agronomist in the history of Rome. All these items are packed in
biodegradable bags and containers. There are even entertainments like the didactic farm, reproducing a real farm, where our children can know the
country. For the inauguration there are also curiosities like the pumpkin corner and ice-creams made of local raw products. But the market of
Circum Maximus is also a cultural place, where you can attend forums, courses and debates. “The experience of the capital is a model for all the
open markets that want to open at a national level; besides “there are over 2 million consumers taking part to our initiatives during the year,
with the participation of more than 10000 local enterprisers”.
